Exploring the Fascinating World of Generative AI: An Overview
What exactly is Generative AI and why is there so much hype around it?
Pace of advance in technology has been unpredictable these days. In 2021–2022, the buzzword was “Cryptocurrency” and “NFT”. In 2023, that hall of fame has been replaced with “ChatGPT” and “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Before diving into more specific topics, I think it is important to clearly define the terminology, as they are interrelated yet subtly different.
Artificial Intelligence is a broad field that aims to create machines that can perform tasks that can be normally carried out by humans. Examples include speech recognition, decision-making, and natural language processing. Smart assistants such as “Siri” or “Alexa” are all examples of AI.
Machine Learning, while a similar concept, is a specific subset of AI, but also a specific technique to achieve AI. It refers to training method in which large sets of data and mathematical model are fed into machines, so these machines can identify patterns and improve themselves through trial and error.
